Semester Exchange Programs
Centennial College is proud to partner with first class educational institutions from all over the world. We are offering our Study Abroad program for Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 semesters. Students can choose from 9 major European Universities and Colleges in Denmark, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium Scotland, Romania, and Finland!
The Exchange program allows students to spend one semester studying abroad at one of Centennial’s partner institutions around the world. Students will take courses that are relevant to their academic program at Centennial in order to earn credits upon successful completion at the host institution.
All full-time Centennial College students in any area of study are eligible to apply. We require you have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Yes, you can apply to more than one program/institution. However, it is important to note that course offerings will vary by institution. Before applying - double check that the Partner institution has complementary course offerings to your program at Centennial College. Once you have submitted you application we will review your application with your program coordinator and success advisor and they will make a recommendation on which exchange program is the best option for credit alignment with your Centennial College program.
Every partner institution will have their own unique start dates and end dates that may differ slightly to what the Term dates are here at Centennial College. You must ensure you are available to travel for the dates of the program. If selected, you must be available to attend an in person pre-departure orientation in April.
Before applying - double check that the Partner institution has complementary course offerings to your program at Centennial College.
Make sure you think carefully about the destination country as well. Exchange programs are about 4-5 months long so we encourage you to do your research if you are not familiar with the country or culture. If you speak any European languages - even just a little bit - consider an exchange in a country where you will already have some basic language skills. While you don’t need any language skills to be eligible – it can certainly make adjusting into life in another country much easier.
Once we receive your application, we will inform your success advisor or program coordinator of your interest and provide them with a list of relevant courses. They will determine which partner institution will provide the best opportunity for credit alignment with your program at Centennial College.
Once your application is received SaGE staff work closely with relevant academic Centennial faculty and program coordinators to carefully evaulate your eligiblity and overall suitability for a semester exchange abroad.
If there is clear credit alignment and support from your program coordinator, we will move onto the next steps and notify students of their acceptance into the program. Once accepted, your program coordinator will work with you to create a learning agreement. The learning agreement will specify which courses you need to take overseas and which courses at Centennial College they count for.
Successful students are offered a bursary from the College that is intended to cover approximately 70% of the associated costs of participating in a Semester Exchange. More information on program costs is available in the Program Costs tab in the online brochure.
Yes, exchange students take all their courses at the partner institution but still stay enrolled at Centennial College for their semester abroad. You will continue to pay your regular Centennial College tuition while abroad but you do NOT pay any tuition to the partner institution.
It is very important that you are able to fulfill the credit requirements of your chosen program at Centennial College so you can stay on track to graduate. When reviewing your application these are considerations that we make when deciding if an exchange will work for you and your program at Centennial College.
Once an application is received, SaGE staff work closely with relevant academic Centennial faculty and program coordinators to carefully evaulate your eligiblity and overall suitability for a semester exchange. You will also be required to attend an interview so we can provide you with further information and determine your suitability for a full semester abroad.
If there is clear credit alignment and support from your program coordinator, we will move onto the next steps. Students then work closely with their program coordinator and/or Success Advisor to develop an academic plan of what courses to take while abroad and what courses to take upon return to Centennial. This will be outlined in the form of a Learning Agreement.
Once a Learning Agreement is signed, students will also receive logistical support from SaGE staff to complete additional application requirements and prepare for their semester abroad. Selected students will be offered a bursary from the College to help offset costs associated with participation in a study abroad program.
